Colour Therapy - color therapy

ANCIENT HISTORY OF COLOUR THERAPY

The use of colour for healing has been practiced throughout the ages. Many ancient cultures from the Mayans to the Native Americans knew how the different colours in nature affected them and used colours to bring balance and harmony in all areas of their lives. Light and colour connected them to nature and to the rhythms of the universe.

When people moved away from nature and began living indoors and away from natural daylight, they found that they started becoming ill. People then began to realise that the colours of the food they ate affected their well-being and that colours could also be used for protection and to encourage good fortune.

Ancient Cultures

The Atlanteans are believed to have developed an advanced system of using colour and crystals and, according to legend, built circular temples with individual healing rooms. The ceilings of their temples would have been domed and made of crystals that transformed the light shining through into patterns of colour and vibrations. When entering an individual room, a crystal door would close and the room would then be energised to the frequency of colour required to heal the specific illness

or imbalance of the person being treated,

Archaeologists discovered that the ancient Egyptians used their temples in a similar way, with certain rooms constructed in such a manner as to allow the rays of the sun shining through scatter into the colours of the spectrum. Like the Atlanteans, it is believed that the sick were diagnosed and put into one of the rooms that radiated the prescribed colour for treatment.

Just as the Atlanteans were believed to have done, the ancient Egyptians

also used gems in colour treatment. They maintained that as gems are pure and contain concentrated colour, gems would have the greatest effect on the body. They would grind the gemstones into fine powder to administer to each patient. This is the same principle as used in Ayurvedic medicine, a 5000 year old healing science originating from India and the oldest medical system practiced in Hindu, Christian, Muslim and Buddhist countries throughout the world.

In Egyptian mythology, blue, yellow and red were attributed to their gods: blue to Thoth who was worshipped as the god of wisdom, time, writing and the moon; yellow to Isis, the queen of the goddesses and wife of Osiris, a great healer and magician and who taught women how to grind corn, spin flax, weave cloth and also taught men the art of curing disease; red to Osiris, god of the sun, and first worshipped as a nature god embodying the spirit of vegetation that dies with the harvest to be reborn again in spring. He was later worshipped as a god of the dead.

The Egyptians believed that blue rays were at their most powerful in the morning and in the spring, yellow rays at noon and in the summer and red rays in the afternoon and in autumn. (New Larousse Encyclopaedia of Mythology, 1959) Ayurveda is an ancient form of medicine practiced in India for thousands of years, the philosophy being to treat the whole being – the body, mind and spirit – not just the physical symptoms. Practitioners of Auyervedic medicine believe that all beings wear a coat of many colours, which continually change according to a person’s mental, emotional and

physical well-being. This coat consists of seven bodies, which interpenetrate each other and make up the aura or electromagnetic field. Contained within these bodies are the seven chakras or energy centres which are likened to a whirling mass of energy. Each of these radiate the colours of the spectrum, each colour being associated with one of the endocrine glands in the physical body. We will discuss these layers and the aura later in this course.

The father of modern Western medicine, Hippocrates, knew the importance

of balance between the body, mind and spirit and used colour as an intrinsic

part of the healing process. His followers, however, opted to concentrate on

the physical aspects of healing, using a more scientific approach and eschewing the more subtle forms of medicine. Western medicine has since developed this scientific approach, preferring to focus on healing the physical body rather than the balancing of the whole.

Chakras - What are they?

What are the Chakras
In the Hindu tradition, chakras are centres of metaphysical or biophysical energy in the human body. There are generally considered to be seven basic chakras, and minor chakras. Some modern believers in chakras have drawn parallels between the chakra system and the major organs of the endocrine system.
The seven main chakras are visualised as a series of lotus flowers ascending the spine to the crown of the head. Each lotus has a specific number of petals, and each chakra has an associated colour, element(s), and source(s) of energy. As the chakras progress from the lowest to the highest, they govern increasingly spiritual functions. As a person becomes more spiritually aware, he or she becomes in touch with the higher chakras one by one, while the lowest chakra relates only to the most basic physical concerns. A brief description of each of the chakras, from lowest to highest, can be found below.
Root chakra: This chakra is believed to be located at the base of the spine and governs basic instincts, survival, and feelings of security. It is said to be associated with the color red and the element of earth, and it is visualized as a four-petaled lotus.
Sacral chakra: The sacral chakra, is said to reside in the groin or pelvis, and is related to sexual energy, emotions, and creativity. It is thought to be associated with the color orange and the element of water. The sacral chakra is symbolized by a six-petaled lotus.
Solar plexus chakra: The solar plexus is the region where the abdomen and the thorax meet. The chakra associated with this area governs digestion, mental function, and power. Its color is yellow and its element is fire. The solar plexus chakra is represented by a ten-petaled lotus.
Heart chakra: This chakra is said to govern love and compassion. It is associated with the entire chest area, including the lungs. The heart chakra is said to be related to the color green and the element of air, and its lotus has 12 petals.
Throat chakra: The throat chakra is believed to be related to communication, self-expression, and growth. It is symbolized by a lotus with 16 petals and associated with the color blue and the element of sound or life.
Brow chakra: This chakra, also known as the third eye, is symbolised by a two-petaled lotus. It is said to govern intuition and perception. Its color is indigo and it is related to the element of light or time.
Crown chakra: The crown chakra is said to represent the pinnacle of spiritual awareness, or connection to the divine. It is symbolized as a violet or white lotus with a thousand petals and its associated element is space or thought.

Energy and healing

Energy Healing

Energy healing is the practice of balancing the energy field that surrounds the human body. These are called `chi’, or an `aura”’ or simply, `the energy field’, this energy is referenced in many cultural traditions and is central to several alternative healing techniques. It is often divided into chakras — each one corresponding to a person’s mental, emotional, and physical self.

A person’s energy is believed to influence an individual’s well-being. The energy field can be healed, and that healing translates into physical improvement. If the energy around the lungs is blocked, for example, there may be a corresponding physical problem. If the energy is smoothed out, the physical problem may be improved.

Energy healers specialize in improving a person’s energy. They claim to manipulate the energy field of their patients, dispersing blockages or re-routing paths. They positively influence the energy field, which changes the physical state of the patient.

There are several different traditions and methods of energy healing Reiki and Healing Touch are the most common. Others include Ama Deus, Karuna Ki, Pranic, and Tantra.

Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy healing art. It is concerned with the universal life energy. In a reiki session, the practitioner channels healing energy from herself to her patient, and transfers that energy by touch. Specific hand placements cover each part of the body. Reiki corrects imbalances that hinder wellness. Reiki practitioners are trained in classes, and initiated into reiki with a ritual called an attunement.

Healing Touch is an energy healing practice that also uses the hands to interact with the energy field. Healing Touch also tries to achieve balance in the energy system. Practitioners of this type of energy healing undergo class training, learn by practice, and are often also nurses.

Though the medical establishment has been skeptical towards energy healing, it is becoming more common and acceptable. There are reiki masters, and healing touch practitioners all over the world. Finding one near you won’t be hard.

Rune Stones - How to read them

What are Runes
Runes are letters in a family of ancient alphabets known as runic alphabets. Runes were used as a method of communication across Scandinavia and in other Germanic nations from around the 3rd century CE to around the 13th century, when they were displaced by the Roman alphabet. Thousands of examples of runic inscriptions can be found in stones, coins, and artwork, and many Scandinavian countries also boast extensive collections of runic manuscripts. Runes are also used by some people as a tool for divination, since these individuals believe that runes have mysterious powers.
The primary runic alphabet is often known as Futhark, in a reference to its first five letters. The runic alphabet was probably derived from the Etruscan alphabet which was once in wide use in Italy, and it characterized by angular characters, with no curves or soft edges like those found in the Roman alphabet. This is common to alphabets developed during this period, since they can be readily chiseled into stone.
The word `rune’ is derived from an Anglo-Saxon word which means “secret,” or `mystery’. Writing was widely held to be mysterious by many early European cultures, since it abstracted spoken language, turning it into symbols which could be read. The runes in a runic alphabet each represent individual sounds, and each rune also has a meaning; for example, fehu, the first rune in Futhark, makes an “F” sound and it also means “cattle.”

Order your free runestone course here!
During the period when runes were used for writing, they were associated with mystery and magic as well as communication. Runic inscriptions were often added to garments, homes, and weapons to confer protection, for example. This mystery led to the displacement of runes as Christianity spread across these Germanic nations, since the Christians believed that runes were pagan. Fortunately, many extant examples of runic writing exist, for historians who want to learn more about pre-Christian culture in Europe.
Modern mystics use runes for divination, much like tarot cards. These mystics draw runes from a set to answer questions or create spreads which are supposed to predict upcoming events. Each rune has a specific meaning in the context of divination, and the interpretation of runes can become quite complex, especially when a large number of runes is used in combination. People who choose to use runes for divination would do well to recall that the history of these arcane symbols is very complex and lengthy, and the practice of magic is only a small part of it.

Guardian Angel - What are they?

What is a Guardian Angel
People associate the idea of a guardian angel with Christianity and often more specifically with Catholicism. Actually there is some scriptural basis in Judaism for the concept of a guardian angel. Angels as intercessory occur in the book of Job. Here the idea is presented that angels can plead on the behalf of people and specifically assigned to a person to do so. Plato also talked about spirits that were assigned to humans by God, and there are many other religions in which people are watched over by a specific spirit, deity or an ancestral spirit.

In Christian thought, people get a guardian angel assigned to them when they come to earth. This angel helps to guard them and may act as messenger between the assigned person and God. The angel can pray on behalf of the person and can offer them protection.
Others believe that only children have guardian angels. The angels are then reassigned to others when the person has an adult conversion to Christ, and there are other interesting theories regarding these guides and helpers. For instance, some saints have believed that the martyrdom and suffering they must endure means they have lost their guardian angels.
Religious philosophy regarding these guides in Christianity became clearly articulated in the work of Christian theologian Honorius of Autun, though the idea of guardian angels may be traced back to the 5th century CE. In the 12th century, Honorius wrote that he believed all souls receive a guardian angel as soon as they became corporeal. Others echoed his writings like Thomas Aquinas, and then lively debate ensued on just what type of angels had this responsibility, since there are several orders and rankings of angels.
Though the idea of a guardian angel may be thought of as predominantly Catholic, based on the writing of Catholic theologians in the Middle Ages, there are other sects, like Eastern Orthodox, that espouse similar beliefs. In more secular ideology, guardian angels may sometimes be seen as a conscience or muse. They’re not only meant to protect but also to guide people away from sin or to inspire them to greatness.
A more modern interpretation of the guardian angel is that anyone can be guided by or be an angel under the right moments. A total stranger saves you from stepping off a curb when a bus is coming, or a workmate says something out of character that comforts you during a difficult time. Some people believe a person’s guardian angel guided these interventions, or that the spirit of a deity can present you with opportunities for protection and comfort from others who become momentary angels. These people may be called angels, though they don’t fit a typical theological description of them.
The common prayer said by many Christian children to a guardian angel is reflective of how numerous children are taught about these guides and intercessors. The prayer invokes the angel and says of it “to whom god’s love commits thee here.” Many people who believe in guardian angels believe that these guides are an expression of the love of God and that they are an example of the personal relationship each individual can have with God.

Train to be a Colour therapist - color therapy

What is Colour Therapy
The use of Colour as a Therapy is a truly holistic, non-invasive and powerful therapy that dates back thousands of years; the first evidence of the practice can be found in ancient texts from India, China and Egypt.
Colour is simply light of varying wavelengths which is a form of energy that is used in Colour Therapy.
This light energy affects all living cells, without light all living things are affected. When used in the correct way, the different frequencies of light can have a profound and healing effect on all creation, human or otherwise. It is a well known scientific fact that everything has a vibration/frequency.
Colour Therapy can be used to assist with physical, mental, emotional or spiritual issues, or for specific problems or as an over all relaxation therapy. Colour Therapy can be used safely and effectively - either alone or alongside any other treatments, for example complementary or orthodox medicine.  Colour Healing can be given to adults, children, babies and animals.
Colour energy can be the catalyst for our healing process and encourages normal and healthy workings of the body.
A professional Colour Therapist can explain and advise you on how you can use colour at home for health and for wellbeing.
Understanding Yourself with Colour
Some of us love yellow, some of us hate orange. We all have our colour preferences.
There is a reason for these colour preferences which can be explained by:
•    Life experiences involving that colour - a negative life experience makes us dislike a certain colour; a positive life experience involving a particular colour  can of course make us feel drawn to that particular colour.
Or
•    An aversion to a colour can indicate an imbalance in that particular area of the body.
Being aware of these preferences can tell us a great deal about ourselves and help us to address sometimes very deep seated emotional issues and character traits etc.
Colour can be incredibly enlightening and transforming.
Angel Therapy Luna Online Home Studies courses can help you explore Colour Therapy and how it can affect and change lives whether you have an interest in complementary therapy or colour or you are already a professional Aromatherapist or Crystal therapist who wishes to know more.

Reiki

What is Reiki
Reiki is a form of spiritual healing dating back to 20th century Japan. Created by Buddhist Sensei Mikao Usui, Reiki is said to heal a person through the energy flowing from the palms of the practitioner. Reiki made its way to the US thanks to the work of Hawayo Takata, who was born in Hawaii from Japanese parents. Hawayo Takata tried Reiki in one of her visits to Japan, and eventually avoided three surgeries thanks to Reiki treatment. In 1937, she became the first outsider ever to receive a First Degree Reiki certification.

The name Reiki literally means `spiritual/soul energy’. Practitioners believe that Reiki can help unblock the emotional or spiritual blocks that cause illness. Rather than focusing on treating the symptoms of a disease, Reiki works on the causes. Through the use of universal life-energy Reiki can heal a person even if the practitioner does not know what is wrong.
During a Reiki session, a practitioner will ask you to lie down on a table after removing your shoes and jewellery. They then move their hands around your body, without actually touching you. During the process, the practitioner’s hand usually become very hot, a sign that energy is flowing through them. It is important to note that the energy received does not come from the practitioner themselves; but they are merely channelling the Universe’s energy. Some people who experience Reiki for the first time have an intense emotional reaction to it; this is considered normal.
Because Reiki works on energy, sometimes it takes several visits before a difference can be seen or felt. Also, the results tend to be subtle, and can vary from person to person. However, practitioners believe that Reiki works for everyone and any condition.

Gemstone Therapy

Gemstone Therapy (also connected with Crystal Healing)

Gemstone therapy is a new-age alternative healing method that has its roots in both in the Hindu religion and medieval medical practices.

In the 13th and 14th centuries, gemstone elixirs were made from water and powdered gemstones and prescribed for a variety of ailments to the nobles and those otherwise able to afford them. After losing their popularity in the later centuries, they were reborn in the new age movements of the 1960s and 1970s.

Those who practice gemstone therapy today relate the use of gems to homeopathic principals. Believing that like cures like, the gems chosen are similar in color to the disease they are purported to cure.

Rubies and garnets are associated with blood disorders and are used to treat leukaemia, menstrual problems and AIDS. Peridots and jade, because of their green colour are reported to relieve high blood pressure, stress and headaches.

Diamonds and moonstones are the fertility and nurturing stones said to increase mother’s milk and improve sperm counts. Obsidian and hematite are reported to alleviate depression, cure insomnia and prevent dreams from turning into nightmares.

Amber is considered a gemstone, yet is not a stone at all. Amber is formed by the petrifying of tree sap and is reputed to relieve arthritis pain.

Many gemstone therapy practitioners prefer using the Chakra method of therapy. They believe that by aligning specific stones with the seven chakra centers of the body and bringing the centres into balance, health is promoted. The seven centers are:

The Root Chakra, represented by the Obsidian stone, is located at the base of the spine. The lower abdomen chakra, represented by the stone Carnelian, is just below the navel. The solar plexus chakra, represented by the stone Citrine, is just below the breastbone. The heart chakra, represented by the stone Peridot, is in the center of the chest. The throat chakra, represented by the stone Aquamarine, is at the base of the throat. The third eye chakra, represented by the stone Lapis lazuli, is centered above the eyebrows. The crown chakra, represented by the stone Amethyst, is at the crown of the head. Many different alternative healing disciplines include chakra therapy in their practice. These include Reiki healers and yoga practitioners; it is also used by many people as a focus for meditation.

Some medical professionals support the practice as long as the user continues to follow approved medical treatments for their illness and as long as the gemstones are not ingested.

Alternative Medicine

Alternative Medicine
Alternative medicine is defined as any health practice that takes the place of, or is incompatible with, conventional Western medicine. Distinction must be made between alternative medicine and complementary medicine. Complementary medicine may involve non-traditional medical practices, but is undertaken along with traditional healing approaches. Alternative medicine implies using only non-traditional methods.
Alternative medicine includes a broad range of practices. Some healing therapies are based on Ancient Chinese beliefs, like acupuncture and the use of certain herbal compounds. Others focus on Hindu, or Ayurvedic, therapies including diet changes, the practice of yoga, and emphasizing the connection of mind, body, and spirit.
Mind, body, and spirit healing is also championed as holistic health, and can be alternative or complementary. Dr. Deepak Chopra, for example, practices medicine in this way, leaning more toward alternative than conventional thinking, although he holds a Western medical degree. His teachings have been hotly contested in the medical community.
Some other examples of alternative medicine include massage, meditation, chiropractic techniques and practice, spiritual healing, exercise practices like Tai Chi, and aromatherapy. This is just a short list of an almost inexhaustible supply of other holistic therapies, such as Angel Therapy, Crystal Healing, Colour Therapy and Reiki ,
Alternative practitioners can often point to thousands of years of anecdotal evidence that suggests certain alternative practices are successful. The Western medical community largely stands opposed to such practices, but as complementary medicine has advanced, there are now medical schools that teach “alternative” methods. Many physicians now embrace complementary medicine because it creates more options for addressing a medical condition.
Some people turn to alternative medicine when the traditional medical community can offer them no help or cure for a condition. Again, anecdotal evidence suggests that certain therapies may help to improve quality of life for these people. Western physicians acknowledge the more established methods of alternative medicine and recommend alternative therapies for patients they cannot help through traditional medicine. While some physicians remain sceptical, alternative medicine is often looked upon as a last resort strategy.

How To Read Tarot Cards

The Tarot
The Tarot is a deck of cards now commonly used in ‘fortune telling’, or divination. Divination using cards is called cartomancy. The deck consists of four numbered suits like a regular deck of playing cards, and twenty two picture cards numbered one through twenty-two (in some decks, zero through twenty-one).
The cards appeared at roughly the same time as the now-universal 52-card deck, and it is a matter of dispute which came first.
The Tarot deck has fourteen cards in each suit, versus thirteen for playing cards; the Tarot ‘court cards’ include a page along with the Knight (Knave), Queen and King.
The twenty-two picture cards, now called the Major Arcana (the suited cards are the Minor Arcana), were originally permanent trump cards. That is, in a trick-taking game, any picture card would take a trick over a suit-card. They illustrate universal story themes; the Fool is a young man setting off on a journey with a pack insouciantly slung over his shoulder. He is often depicted not watching where he’s going, and about to walk off the edge of a cliff, while a small dog yaps at his heels in warning. Other cards depict concepts rather than people - the wheel of fortune is fate or karma, and the figure of Judgment is justice in all its forms.
The suits have direct analogies to standard playing cards: swords are spades, cups are hearts, pentacles (coins, discs) are diamonds and wands (staves) are clubs.
The use of the Tarot as a tool for telling fortunes is of fairly recent invention, dating back to the end of the eighteenth century. The most familiar deck is the so-called Rider-Waite deck. The designs were by Arthur Waite, a member of the occult society Order of the Golden Dawn, in collaboration with artist Pamela Colman Smith, so the deck is sometimes called the Waite-Smith deck. It was first published by the Rider Company in 1909.
Hundreds of different Tarot decks now exist. Decks that downplay or remove the Christian symbolism are increasingly popular, and some feminist decks significantly downplay the male dominant roles found in traditional decks. Some decks have discarded the suit system altogether and are structured around different themes - animals in a Native American inspired deck, for example.
Uses for Tarot cards are varied. They can of course be used in a traditional fortune telling layout. But they can also be used as inspiration cards, affirmation tools, or for self-discovery and intuition building.
