How do mediums contact the dead?

A medium develops a fine state of sensitivity to etheric vibrations, and who places his or her gifts at the service of humanity, works to a very definite plan. A guardian is placed in charge of his, or her, psychic development, and this guardian (or guide) interpenetrates the aura of the medium with his own vibratory force until the aura becomes double sensitive and quickly responsive to all super-sensual vibrations. He then transmits through the aura information concerning the discarnate soul who desire to contact their friends and relatives who are still tied to a physical body.

In the head of every person are two glands, know as the pituitary gland and the pineal gland. In some people these glands are active and in some they are dormant; in some people they are fitfully active, but upon them depend the faculties of clear-seeing and clear-hearing. The pineal gland gives the power of registering the vibrations of the supernal world in the form of vision and the pituitary gland of registering the vibrations in the form of sound, and thus when the discarnate guardian projects his information into the aura of the medium, one of these two centres will respond and the medium will either see a vision or hear a voice.

Psychic communion is not the easy matter many people  imagine it to be; the slightest impression registered by the human brain has possibly been conveyed by an intricate process from the supernatural world, but many marvellous things have been brought about by it. The hopeless have been given encouragement; the would-be suicide has retained his life; the sorrowful have been made glad, and in the future, I think man’s salvation from his own greedy madness will be by the conscious use of this same power, through which he will be guided wisely to wield the affairs of nations with the help of great discarnate statesmen.

He will then be led to guard against war, epidemic and calamity, for the ramifications of mediumship extend from mere fortune-telling to the powers of prophecy; from curing a cut finger to reading in the book of nature the cure and prevention of diseases such as cancer, bubonic plague, tuberculosis and sleeping-sickness.

At this time there are hundred of groups and organisations scattered over the world, most of which will aid anyone who so desires, to develop the psychic powers lying latent in their personality. There is nothing very mysterious about this process. The would-be medium is expected to sit with with a group of people among whom there will be one, at least, who is a developed medium. They sit in chairs placed in a circular fashion round the room, so that if their hands are joined each person is in contact with the other and their auras will correspondingly interpenetrate.

The medium in charge, as we know, has an aura already sensitized by the guardian, and this same guide now transmits his power into the aura of the medium and it is then transmitted through the contact of his hands to the sitters on either side, whose auras become charged with as much of this power as they are able to receive; they are also in contact with the other sitters and some of the power is transmitted through their hands until it has penetrated the whole of the circle, and for the time being should have the effect of sensitizing, in a greater or lesser degree, the auras of the sitters concerned. If any of these sitters have glands which are at all active, they should be able to register some of the sights or sounds of the supernatural world.

In part 19 we will learn how people have developed mediumship powers through illness.

Hopi Ear Candling Treatment - why its good for you

Issues that benefit from the use of Hopi Ear Candles
Hopi ear candles are widely recognise as the most effective method of removing excess wax from the ear and rebalancing internal pressure. By doing so, a large number of conditions associated with the Ear, Nose and Throat can be treated.

Nasal and throat allergies

Technically known as allergic rhinitis, this condition is the inflammation of the membrane that lines the nose and throat. The inflammation occurs following an allergic reaction, after inhaling specific allergens such as dust or pollen. When allergic rhinitis occurs during the spring or summer it is commonly known as hay fever. Symptoms include sneezing, runny or blocked nose, irritated eyes and nose. The use of Hopi ear candles on a monthly basis may help to reduce the incidence of these allergic reactions and more frequent use of the candles, 1-2 times a week, during more intense attacks may help to reduce their severity.

•    Relief of a build up in pressure (often after flying or diving)
Many people experience the feeling of a change in pressure in their ears when flying. This happens when the eardrums bulge towards the area of lower pressure. During normal function, the pressure inside and outside the eardrum should remain equal, the Eustachian tubes help to regulate this pressure. However, when flying, the eardrum can be pushed inwards as the pressure builds near to the ground. For most people this change in pressure is easily and naturally corrected, often through the action of chewing, swallowing or yawning, but when these actions fail to right the pressure imbalances the use of Hopi ear candles may be required.

The warmth of the candles appears to help the Eustachian Tube to function correctly, this in addition to the slight suction that is applied with the candle, can help the eardrum to correct itself. Ear candling can be very beneficial for correcting ear pressure for people who have recently flown, treatment in the days after the pressure imbalance is recommended.

•    Sinusitus
The sinuses are the air filled cavities around the eyes and nose. Sinusitis is described as the swelling and inflammation of the lining of the sinuses. The condition is brought about when swelling causes the openings in the sinuses to become blocked and prevents mucus from draining effectively through the nose. As the mucus builds up, this leads to an increase in pressure and often to pain. Sinusitis is a relatively common issue and feels like a standard head cold, often with headaches, though cases can be both short term and long term. Hopi ear candles can be used on a daily basis in the first few days of sinusitis, and if symptoms persist can be used on a weekly / monthly basis in the long term.

•    Glue ear / blocked ear
The term ‘glue ear’ refers to the repeated collection of fluid in the middle ear, very common in young children. In this condition the middle ear can become filled with think, sticky, glue-like fluid and can lead to a degree of loss of hearing. When the Eustachian tube becomes blocked, often due to infection, the middle ear can fill with fluid, leading to the development of symptoms such as partial deafness and ear infection. The development of glue ear usually occurs over several months and can often go unnoticed initially. However, once diagnosed, Hopi ear candles can help to alleviate the symptoms and speed up recovery.

•    Colds
The common cold is one of the most widespread conditions throughout the modern world, with around 50% of the population of Europe and North America estimated to be affected each year. With symptoms consisting of a runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and coughing, a cold can be a great inconvenience to everyday life and often results in lost work days. Hopi ear candling, done once or twice a day, can help to clear the congestion and blockages that arise from colds and therefore to ease the symptoms.

•    Headaches & Migraines
For most people the occasional headache is nothing to worry about, but for those people that suffer from regular headaches or migraines it can be very debilitating. Hopi ear candling can help to relax the client and also to clear the sinuses and airways, helping to relieve the discomfort of headaches and migraines.

•    Tinnitus
Tinnitus is the term used to describe the condition of sounds and ringing being heard in either one or both ears. These sounds are actually formed within the ear itself and are frequently described as ringing, buzzing or whistling. Whilst the causes behind tinnitus are still unclear, any sufferers point to ear candling as being beneficial in terms of promoting relaxation.

How love affects your Aura

The intensity with which such people can love when the emotions are transmuted to a higher centre, such as the heart, may in time transform them from sinners into saints; for upon our capacity to love depends our own spiritual advancement. We might say, too, that upon our capacity to love depends the salvation of all humankind, for it is the law that real love must of necessity draw a response from the persons loved, and they in turn will love,  becoming also miniature saviours of humankind.

The saints of this world, what of them? The saints who dwell in little slum apartments; the saints of cottages with small backyards and enormous families of children, some of which have been adopted from even less fortunate circumstances? The saints who spend their lives scrubbing, cooking, praying, nursing the young and the old; loving everybody indiscriminately, what of them?

I wish you could catch just one glimpse of such an aura, in which all the colours seem to vibrate from the centre of the heart. The red of the passions has been lifted up and changed to flashing shades of azure and sapphire, which interpenetrate what is left of the passional nature, so that it appears mauve, and the colour of the intellect, which plans and thinks for others, is charged with these same shades of blue, so that it appears sometimes as blue, sometimes eau-de-nil, sometimes lemon. The glory of such colourings, when perceived in surroundings bereft of beauty and surrounding a person who may be utterly illiterate, makes one feel very humble, for here is a literal example of how the glory of God is attained by merit only and not be wealth, position or knowledge.

Then there are the saints of another world. The saints who give their lives to teach the ignorant; to heal the sick; who grow weary in the service of humanity and who ask no reward except that the mystical grace of God illumine their lives. These people develop an aura wherein the heart and the head centres become equally active. Such persons have studies and attained knowledge to fit them for their tasks, therefore the intellect radiates a glorious glow of yellow which changes to white during moments of extreme exaltation, and lemon or blue in moments of love. Most of the passional nature becomes concentrated into the region of the heart, which vibrates beautiful tones of mauve, purple or blue according to the mood. Auras such as this can only belong to the lovers of humanity, not merely those who serve because they have been trained fro a vocation.

Needless to say, every aura differs from another, for one man will love more than another who thinks, and he who thinks may at times love very greatly. It is auras such as these that may eventually expand into the glorious mother-of-pearl of the illumined mahatma, saint or teacher, who will leave such a mark on the history of the world that even the sands of time will have difficulty in effacing it.

With such souls a mysterious moment is attained in which another centre, situated in the top of the head, becomes active and its radiation touches the faint, silvery shell of the casual body, which immediately penetrates the ordinary aura, flooding it with silvery radiance, so that the colours there become luminous with new light and new beauty. The saint becomes not a saint of this world, but a saint of the heavenly world and is or her work, thenceforth, is a work supernal. His or her sojourn in this world is a sojourn of outstanding beauty. It is the attainment not only of purified consciousness, but of a super-consciousness, and such a person remains for ever a super man/woman.

In part 15 I shall discuss Disease and the Aura.

Reiki Clinical Intervention

Reiki as a clinical intervention in oncology nursing practice
Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing, June, 2008 by Bossi. Larraine M., Mary Jane Ott, Susan DeCristofaro

Oncology nurses and their patients are frequently on the cutting edge of new therapies and interventions that support coping, health, and healing. Reiki is a practice that is requested with increasing frequency, is easy to learn, does not require expensive equipment, and in preliminary research, elicits a relaxation response and helps patients to feel more peaceful and experience less pain. Those who practice Reiki report that it supports them in self-care and a healthy lifestyle. This article will describe the process of Reiki, review current literature, present vignettes of patient responses to the intervention, and make recommendations for future study.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) lists Reiki as an energy therapy in its classification of complementary and alternative therapies. Energy therapy is defined as one that focuses on energy fields within the body and electromagnetic fields, which focus on fields outside of the body. Reiki is a Japanese word that is a combination of two characters (Rei) meaning universal and (Ki) meaning life-force energy. Reiki is an ancient healing art involving the gentle laying on of hands, well suited for nurses who provide hands-on care for patients in so many different ways.

Philosophy of Care
As in nursing, Reiki therapy is one of practicing the art of presence and compassion. Reiki is not a religion but a philosophy of care that is described by the following principles taught to Reiki practitioners.
* Relate to patients’ core or essence, not personality.
* Listen without judging patients’ actions.
* Be willing not to know or understand the “why’s” associated with patients’ presentation.
* Let go of viewing patient’s responses following Reiki treatment as the practitioner’s personal achievement (Rand, 1998).
Nurses often recognise the importance of entering and leaving another’s “space” or energy field and the impact that the presence of one person can have on another. They understand the pattern of patients’ energy and use as they care for patients and are licensed to provide treatments that often involve touching patients as a part of the care they provide. In doing so, nurses witness the effects of changes that occur in a patient’s energy field during routine nursing care, such as hanging an IV medication, taking a pulse, or teaching about self-care. Reiki practice takes these ideas a step further by acknowledging and working with the vital energy (ki) that patients and nurses possess and merging it with the universal healing energy (rei) through a specific intention of assisting the healing process.

Reiki Treatment
The serious study and use of subtle energy in nursing and other disciplines is receiving increased attention in the literature and in clinical practice (Engebretson, 1998). For example, the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energy and Energy Medicine hosts leading scientists for an annual meeting to discuss and disseminate research findings about energy medicine. Reiki, a type of energy healing, assists nurses in working with the body’s energy to achieve or restore a state of greater balance and harmony. Mikai Usui, a teacher from Japan, developed specific treatment procedures in 1920 after he studied and meditated about healing practices (Lambert, 2000; Petter, 1997; Usui & Petter, 2003). Trained practitioners use a light touch, placing hands in a systematic way to connect the universal life-force energy with a person’s own innate power to heal. Reiki is performed with the recipient fully clothed and either lying down or sitting in a chair. A full treatment may be as long (or as short) as needed; however, it usually lasts 45-90 minutes. A full treatment generally consists of placing the hands in 12 positions on the head and front and back of the torso, and some practitioners also add the knees and feet. The recipient can be awake, asleep, or even unconscious when receiving a treatment. During Reiki treatments, Reiki energy is made available to assist in the body’s efforts to reach a greater equilibrium (Miles & True, 2003). Generally, Reiki is accepted as low risk, and contraindictions and adverse events have not been reported (Miles & True). Recipients report a variety of individual responses to their experiences of Reiki energy, which are included in this article.
Learning to Be a Reiki Practitioner
Anyone can learn to become a Reiki practitioner through a process that combines new knowledge, practice with the form, and understanding of a Reiki session and a series of attunements or initiations that enhance the flow of Reiki energy within a practitioner, administered by a Reiki master or teacher. The process often produces a positive shift in the self-image of the emerging practitioner.Training is divided into three levels (I, II, and III). Initiation to each level celebrates the beginning of study, not the attainment of all necessary learning (Miles, 2003). The training for Reiki level I is a combination of didactic and clinical experience that focuses on the physical process of hand positions used by the practitioner for the delivery of the gentle Reiki energy. Reiki level II adds emotional and spiritual healing attunements with the use of specific symbols that allow the practitioner to offer long-distance Reiki. Reiki level II training increases the practitioner’s ability to listen to her or his own inner voice or intuition. Although some teachers will combine levels I and II together in a weekend workshop, the authors require students to practice doing self-treatments and treatments of others for a period of three to six months before moving from level I to level II training. The third level of Reiki training prepares the practitioner as a master and then as a teacher, usually by having the practitioner work closely with a master practitioner over time (Lubeck, Petter, & Rand, 2001; Miles, 2006). Continuing education is recommended for all practitioners in the form of Reiki sharing or Reiki practice groups. At the authors’ institutions, this involves a combination of giving and receiving treatments as well as opportunities to discuss research with a mentor and colleagues.
