 AROMATHERAPY – Home Study Certificate Course

The complete course introduces the art of Aromatherapy, which can be used during holistic massage to produce physical, spiritual and a mental sense of harmony or inhaled to generate healing properties.  

The oils are absorbed through the skin and when the essence of plant leaves, shrubs and flowers are inhaled they maximise the effect of their therapeutic benefits. Essential oils can be diluted with a pure carrier oil to provide a pleasing and relaxing massage. Aromatherapy is one of the most relaxing treatments that can be given and is proven to be highly successful in the alleviation and cure of many ailments that exist in our society today.

On the successful completion of the complete course and examination, students are issued with the Luna Online Home Studies Introduction to Aromatherapy Certificate which enables them to practise the therapy on friends and family.  However, we recommend that students undertake the advanced course and examination if they wish to practice professionally.

Wherever possible Luna Online Home Studies has incorporated pictures or photographs to help students understand the subject and practice of Aromatherapy, these include photographs of massage techniques and pictures of different herbs and plants of essential oils that are used during therapy.

Overview of Part 1, 2 and 3 of the Introduction to the Aromatherapy Course

Part 1 

Lesson 1 starts by helping you understand how it all came about by giving the history of Aromatherapy, how the practice developed in Europe, how it is used in present day and finally contraindications of Aromatherapy

Lesson 2 continues by explaining the sense of smell, methods of extracting the essential oils, where to buy them and how they should be stored, it then goes on to explain the use of carrier oils, safe use of essential oils in the home and making a blend for use in massage

Lesson 3 gives guidance on how to make the environment conducive to aromatherapy massage, protecting yourself, a hand massage technique and aftercare (with pictures to show you the different movements).  This lesson concludes with guidance on setting up your own personal collection of essential oils and information on key essential oils, there properties how they can be used.


Part 2

Lesson 4 starts with the history of cold cream and how to make your own.

Lesson 5 continues with information on foot massage and gives you a foot massage technique (with pictures to show your the movements),

Lesson 6 provides information on stress and how it occurs, techniques for dealing with it and essential oils that can help.  This section concludes with information on other key essential oils, their properties and how they can be used.

Part 3 

Lesson 7 begins with information on depression, bereavement, self esteem, how and when they occur, symptoms and treatments.  

Lesson 8 continues with a back massage technique, after care and concludes with information on essential oils, their properties and how they can be used.

Lesson 9 advises on setting up as an Aromatherapist with family and friends, Aromatherapy and the Future and concludes with a sample client treatment card.

Learning Review

After each group of lessons, a list of related questions and answers has been provided to enable students to review their learning.

Way Forward

When students have successfully passed the Introduction to Aromatherapy examination, they are issued with a Certificate that is recognised by the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine (IPHM). To apply for recognition they should contact IPHM at www.iphm.co.uk .
