Colour: The Magical Energy Enhancer

Colour is an integral part of life. Each one invokes a different mood and causes an immediate effect on your energy. You can imagine colours as having personalities. Blue reminds us of the sky and ocean, thereby creating calm and stimulating the imagination. Green reminds us of nature and is healing. Red is the colour for passion, fame, and love. We see colour everywhere — in streets, outdoor markets, fruits and vegetables, fabrics, buildings, and flowers. In fact, flowers are a wonderful way to bring colour and energy into your home. The vibrant hue of the petals can shower a room with radiance and introduce enlivening accents.

Colour can work magic when you discover how each one affects your energy. In feng shui, there are colours that embody the kind of energy most appropriate to a room’s specific purpose, as well as ones that represent different life aspirations. Gold is regal. Red is fiery. Pink opens your heart. Green is wonderful for a living room since it is a healing colour and is easy on the eyes. Yellow works well in the dining room since it represents the sun and the sun feeds us with energy.

One of the fastest and most inexpensive ways to transform a room is to paint one or more of the walls. It can create calm in a bedroom or give an office a jolt of energy! Keep in mind that soft, neutral colours make a small room look larger while a darker colour can create a sense of protection or cosiness. Painting a small room dark blue can feel a bit claustrophobic. It’s better to paint it a lighter shade and add a few dark accents. Remember that colour also looks different when bathed in natural light as opposed to artificial light from lamps and candles. Feel free to experiment with the sensuous possibilities of each colour as you dress, prepare daily food, and decorate your home. It might be fun to go to a candy store to look all the various colours of jelly beans. Which ones call out your name? Which ones make you happy? Ultimately, you want to choose colours that elevate your mood and enhance your energy.
