Basic Tarot Reading

Basic Tarot Card Reading
Tarot, as we know it now, was invented sometime in the middle 15th century in Italy. It closely mirrored the playing cards of the day. Some believe that people had started using playing cards for divination purposes and the tarot were just a refined version of these cards. These basics playing cards had four suits of ten cards each. These cards were brought to Europe from the Islamic world. It is thought that tarot originated when gypsies and astrologers started using ordinary playing cards to tell fortunes.
During the 15th century, special cards were added to the playing cards. Later, these became known as the major arcana cards, then called the trumps or triumphs. The major arcana cards consist of 22 cards with titles rather than numbers and suit. Each one has a strong symbolic meaning and are considered to be the ‘leaders’ of the tarot deck. The remaining 56 cards are refered to as the minor arcana cards. usually these cards are split into four suits: cups, staves, swords and coins. Though there are many variations on this.
Tarot has evolved since it’s original form. Becoming more complex and rich in symbology. The cards themselves have gained meaning over the years from the cultures that adopted their use. Some cards have come and gone, like The Pope, The Juggler, The Arrow etc. however, around the 17th century, tarot evolved into the form we now know it as having. Many famous alchemists and prophets have used tarot, including Nostradamus and Aristotle.
Tarot cards align with the energies projected onto them. As you shuffle the deck, you and your energies place the cards where they will be most beneficial for you. I always shuffle the deck until the cards feel right. Some people shuffle the cards three times then cut. it is really up to the user. Tarot tap into the spirit realm, or the energies of the user to give their readings.
For centuries, people have been using symbols as a type of divination. Tarot is no differnt. Each of the 78 cards has an individual meaning. Tarot is an interactive Divination art. The cards interact with each other, giving them new and more complex meaning.
You place the cards into various spread where the placement of each card gives it even further meaning. Where cards fall in the spread has a lot to do with how they interact with each other. A card representing the past will influence a cards representing the present and the future. There are many different spreads including the celtic cross, the three card spread, the spread of fates, the single card reading, the circle and cross and the ancestors to name a few.

Celtic Cross Tarot Spread

Celtic Cross Tarot Spread

This spread is quite possibly the most popular Tarot spread as it packs a great deal of information into a few cards and is usually right on target. It is excellent for a first spread for the consultant, and is also good as a conclusive spread.

It might look complicated at first glance. In fact the number of cards in the lay out, actually make it an excellent layout for the beginner. Having very specific cards for very specific purposes makes it easier to interpret. For this reason the Celtic cross spread is often described in the booklet included when you buy a new Tarot deck.

There are many variations of the Celtic cross; none are right or wrong. It is a great spread to experiment with. This is often use this as an opening spread, before any questions are asked of the client. It can tell you quite a lot of relevant information and takes into account their distant past, immediate past and present as well as their immediate future. It also tells you about their inner emotions, which even they may not be aware of; you must be confident when reading this, as sometimes it can reveal hidden fears that they may have but not be aware of until you bring it up.

Guardian Angels

Guardian Angels
People associate the idea of a guardian angel with Christianity and often more specifically with Catholicism. Actually there is some scriptural basis in Judaism for the concept of a guardian angel. Angels as intercessory occur in the book of Job. The idea is that angels plead on the behalf of people and are specifically assigned to a person to do so. Plato also talked about spirits assigned to humans by God, and there are many other religions in which people are watched over by a specific spirit, deity or an ancestral spirit.

In Christian thought, that people are assigned a guardian angel when they come to earth. This angel helps to guard them and acts as messenger between the assigned person and God. The angel can pray on behalf of the person and offers protection.
Some believe that only children have guardian angels. The angels are then reassigned to others when the person has an adult conversion to Christ, and there are other interesting theories regarding these guides and helpers. For instance, some saints have believed that the martyrdom and suffering they must endure means they have lost their guardian angels.
Religious philosophy regarding these guides in Christianity became clearly articulated in the work of Christian theologian Honorius of Autun, though the idea of guardian angels may be traced back to the 5th century CE. In the 12th century, Honorius wrote that he believed all souls received a guardian angel as soon as they became corporeal. Others echoed his writings like Thomas Aquinas, and then lively debate ensued on just what type of angels had this responsibility, since there are several orders and rankings of angels.
Though the idea of a guardian angel may be thought of as predominantly Catholic, based on the writing of Catholic theologians in the Middle Ages, there are other sects, like Eastern Orthodox, that espouse similar beliefs. In more secular ideology, guardian angels may sometimes be seen as a conscience or muse. They’re not only meant to protect but also to guide people away from sin or to inspire them to greatness.
A more modern interpretation of the guardian angel is that anyone can be guided by or be an angel under the right moments. A total stranger saves you from stepping off a curb when a bus is coming, or a workmate says something out of character that comforts you during a difficult time. Some people believe a person’s guardian angel guided these interventions, or that the spirit of a deity can present you with opportunities for protection and comfort from others who become momentary angels. These people may be called angels, though they don’t fit a typical theological description of them.
The common prayer said by many Christian children to a guardian angel is reflective of how numerous children are taught about these guides and intercessors. The prayer invokes the angel and says of it “to whom god’s love commits thee here.” Many people who believe in guardian angels believe that these guides are an expression of the love of God and that they are an example of the personal relationship each individual can have with God.

Starting The Path To A Spiritual Journey

Starting The Path To A Spiritual Journey by Lynn Claridge

A spiritual path is easy to miss because it is subtle. It is a path to your higher consciousness with fuller awareness. Upon entering the spiritual path, you will begin to change your perceptions and see new interpretations of reality. You will learn to heal yourself from the conditioning of childhood, societal mores and traditional thinking. You move from being unaware to becoming an empowered, conscious, loving, holistic, and fully functioning person. You will start to understand the mysteries of life.

As your awareness expands, you will realize there is only one of you. Who you are expands to include all the parts of your life. Knowing and feeling connected to this full-self unfolds in stages, as there are degrees of truth along the way to full truth. It is a continual process of exploring yourself and others, participating in relationships and groups, and learning from experiences of your inner-self.

How do you start your spiritual journey?
Often it begins with a personal crisis that starts an inner desire to look beneath the surface of what is happening to find richer meaning and purpose.

These questions could include such things as.
Who am I outside of my roles and conditioning?
Why am I here?
What would give my life more meaning and purpose?
Why do these things happen to me?
How can I help myself?
Why do I worry about what my family and friends think?
How can I heal my dysfunctional thoughts, feelings and behaviors?
How can I change my life so that I like my life?”

These questions and many others need answering; this will then cause you to move into a deeper quest for life. Life is always answering your inner questions by bringing you answers and new experiences. These experiences may come to you through books or religious teachings, or by listening and learning as you grow. However, you have to be ready to see, feel and hear the insights.

Sometimes it is not even a conscious thought that begins the journey. It might be that you are having problems or you have a habit that needs changing, or a relationship that is not working. At what point would you want to enter a therapy group, a counseling group, or a family therapy group to help improve your situation. Many of these types of groups can open the doors to a deeper search.

You may respond because you have had too much pain and suffering after a catastrophic event like an illness, divorce, loss of a job or a death of a family member. These experiences force you often to look for answers. This is because you become confused, hurt or angry. When you are in this frame of mind, you can open yourself to new ideas.

Another way you can move on to a spiritual path is if you have a partner who is willing to join you on your journey, especially if they are constantly changing and growing, helping to introduce new ideas and catalyzing the relationship. When you stay in a relationship, you can evolve together.

When you decide to make you journey, some mystical experiences can bring you change that will last forever. This is an expansion of consciousness, greater than everyday life. This is where you can lift the veil of non-understanding. Once you have made the changes you will make an instant change in your life. You will release all your fears and start to understand that love is the underlying principal of the universe. You can change you life forever.

The circle and the spiral of life.
Let us now look at two different people. One is living a normal life and one is starting their spiritual journey. For clarity let us call her Susan and let us say that Susan lives her life in a line that goes from point A to point B, eventually this makes a circle from birth to death. Susan is born into a family that would expect her to follow the family’s example. This includes family values and beliefs that have been handed down from one generation to the next. Therefore, Susan stays within the comfort of her conditioning.

If Susan decides to move out from the family footsteps, it would probably be in reaction to extreme situations. Susan jumps to another point and has the tendency to over-correct and therefore, act out the opposite side of the coin. Susan may look like she is thinking for herself and acting differently; however, she is still dealing with the same coin. Susan will still condition and will still stay within the boundaries of the family circle.

Time will tell if Susan returns to the traditions or truly moves into higher consciousness. I would like to point out at this point that many who find their spiritual path do go back to traditional ways; they just experience it with a newer and deeper understanding.

So now, let us look at person number two, we will call this person Peter. Peter looks at the boundaries in the circle and is not satisfied, wanting more from his life than following the line from point A to point B. This calls forth a deeper process in a number of ways (some that we mentioned earlier) so, Peter moves out of the circle. The circle now becomes a new configuration, a spiral. The circle represents a closed system, repeating what has been modeled and taught. It is very difficult for new information to get into this system. When Peter enters the spiral, he makes a shift upwards and moves into a new dimension, an open system, which is full of information not known within the circle.

Another way to explain this is to use a mountain. Susan lives at the bottom of the mountain and everything is familiar. Is this where you are? If you are, then you may have learned for example, that you are an extension of your parents or family. You need to conform to the roles and rules of these groups. You may respond to them telling you what to do. However, you should remember your body is of physical beauty, strength and youth, and this is what counts in your life.

Alternatively, you may believe that your possessions make you who you are. Others around you may think that it is great that you have a high IQ and you did well at school. You have plenty of money and you seem to have it all. That is all very well except that true happiness and having a connection to your inner self, are missing.

If this makes you think about what your role is, and what is missing in your life, that is a good thing. This is the point that you may actually move away from the bottom of the mountain onto the spiral where you will find your true self. Are you ready to walk up the mountain and find your hidden path to your higher realizations? It may be uncomfortable at first and your rational mind might try to talk you into going back down the mountain for safety and familiarity. As you climb, you will start to find others who want to share ideas with you and who can answer a few of your questions. You may find the life you really want.

You now have some ideas to ponder over. What journey do you want to take?

We have looked at the difference between Susan who is not willing to walk away from the circle to start her journey; therefore, she will stay this way forever. We have also looked at Peter, who wants to change his circle; therefore, he will have a happier and fuller life.

Many experiences and thinking patterns can initiate your spiritual journey. The decision is up to you.
Do you want a higher awareness or do you want to live a life where you are blind to what you can really become?

ESP - extra sensory perception

What is ESP
Extra-sensory perception (ESP) refers to any phenomena in which one gains information through means other than the recognized physical senses. ESP is therefore a broad category. Though ESP has never been scientifically proven and has numerous critics and sceptics, many laboratory test results have strongly favoured the existence of ESP, and many people claim personal experience with it. ESP includes such phenomena as telepathy, out-of-body experiences, clairvoyance or remote viewing, precognition or seeing the future, aura reading, and other instances of intuition and knowledge acquired without the use of the physical senses.
The field of study that deals with ESP, known as parapsychology, was developed by J. B. and Louisa Rhine at Duke University in the 1930s. The Rhines popularized the terms ESP and psi, the hypothetical agent through which the mind experiences ESP. They also introduced the use of Zener cards, designed by psychologist Karl Zener, to test ESP in the laboratory. The Zener cards consist of a deck of 25 cards with five different symbols, and ESP is tested by recording the accuracy of the test subject’s guesses about the symbols on cards he or she cannot see.
Though many laboratory experiments suggest that ESP is a real phenomenon, none are definitively conclusive, and many more have been unsuccessful. Critics complain that the experiments favoring ESP were conducted with improper methodology. ESP is, by its nature, difficult to test, since there is little consensus over how it works or what exactly would prove its existence. Few people are truly disinterested when it comes to ESP.

Interestingly, some laboratory tests on ESP found that those who believe in psi are more likely to score above chance when guessing Zener card symbols, while those who do not believe in psi often score below chance. Another interesting result showed people in a relaxed state of mind, such as hypnosis, to make accurate guesses about Zener cards twice as often as chance would indicate, while those who are not hypnotized tend to score around chance. The information today is about the use of ESP, another interesting subject.

Tarot, learn how to read tarot cards

What is the Tarot
Tarot is a deck of cards now commonly used in ‘fortune telling’, or divination. Divination using cards is called cartomancy. The deck consists of four numbered suits like a regular deck of playing cards, and twenty two picture cards numbered one through twenty-two (in some decks, zero through twenty-one).
The cards appeared at roughly the same time as the now-universal 52-card deck, and it is a matter of dispute which came first. The Tarot deck has fourteen cards in each suit, versus thirteen for playing cards; the Tarot ‘court cards’ include a page along with the knight (knave), queen and king.

Learn to Read the Tarot

Learn to Read the Tarot

The twenty-two picture cards, now called the Major Arcana (the suited cards are the Minor Arcana), were originally permanent trump cards. That is, in a trick-taking game, any picture card would take a trick over a suit-card. They illustrate universal story themes; the Fool is a young man setting off on a journey with a pack insouciantly slung over his shoulder. He is often depicted not watching where he’s going, and about to walk off the edge of a cliff, while a small dog yaps at his heels in warning. Other cards depict concepts rather than people - the wheel of fortune is fate or karma, and the figure of Judgment is justice in all its forms.
The suits have direct analogies to standard playing cards: swords are spades, cups are hearts, pentacles (coins, discs) are diamonds and wands (staves) are clubs.
The use of the Tarot as a tool for telling fortunes is of fairly recent invention, dating back to the end of the eighteenth century. The most familiar deck is the so-called Rider-Waite deck. The designs were by Arthur Waite, a member of the occult society Order of the Golden Dawn, in collaboration with artist Pamela Colman Smith, so the deck is sometimes called the Waite-Smith deck. It was first published by the Rider Company in 1909.

Hundreds of different Tarot decks now exist. Decks that downplay or remove the Christian symbolism are increasingly popular, and some feminist decks significantly downplay the male dominant roles found in traditional decks. Some decks have discarded the suit system altogether and are structured around different themes - animals in a Native American inspired deck, for example.
Uses for Tarot cards are varied. They can of course be used in a traditional fortune telling layout. But they can also be used as inspiration cards, affirmation tools, or for self-discovery and intuition building.

Holistic Therapy

Holistic therapy is something tribesmen with knowledge handed down from previous generations to cure and heal their people. They knew their tribe members and the families’ medical histories and could prescribe herbs, foods and lifestyles to help them through their ailments.
In ancient times, holistic medicine practitioners were paid a fee from the time a person was born until the time he or she died. The only time they were not paid was when the person became ill. This naturally inspired them to keep their patients healthy.
In modern times, holistic medicine continues to work on a preventative basis
.

Holistic practitioners and patients alike do not wait until a problem arises and then simply cure it but rather manage the whole body to avoid disease. It is important to remember that the philosophy of holistic medicine not only involves the biological body, but also includes the psychology and spirituality of the patient.
Some people who are deeply committed to holistic medicine techniques believe that in modern western medicine, it is to the doctor’s financial advantage to focus on curative medicine, rather than keeping the patient healthy. Others believe we are living in a time of great abundance and a wide variety of choices when it comes to our health. With a holistic medicine approach, we are blessed to have the scientific knowledge, techniques and pharmaceuticals available to cure, while taking personal responsibilities for our bodies and state of being.

Healing with Cystals

Crystal Healing
Crystal Healing is the practice of using crystals and gemstones to heal, energise and protect the mind and body. The gemstones used in crystal therapy can also work to restore balance, clarity and natural vibrational energies that have been compromised or depleted in a patient. Though crystal healing is considered an alternative medicine, it’s been practiced for centuries and has its roots in Ancient Egypt. China and India have also used crystals in healing rituals for more than 5,000 years.
It is thought that crystals can heal minds and bodies by affecting the vibrational patterns of patients’ auras. The gems are said to carry their own vibrations and their energy can be applied to a body’s electromagnetic system for augmentation. In effect, crystal therapy aims to transfer the energy contained in gemstones to a patient in need of the same energy.

The benefits of crystal healing can be achieved by having gems rubbed on the patient and wearing gems close to the body or in a pocket next to the heart. However, many practitioners prefer to use gemstones directly on chakra points, or energy centres on the body. Using them in this manner helps facilitate the cleansing, healing and stabilizing of energy emanating from each chakra. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet stones can be placed next to their corresponding colored chakra or next to any chakra that could benefit from the healing properties of a particular stone.
Restoring the natural flow of energy helps the patient shake off negative habits, attitudes and other factors that impede a patient’s function in everyday life. Wearing metal is greatly discouraged while undergoing crystal healing, since metal acts as a stopper of energy. Metal surrounding gemstones is especially detrimental because it disrupts the energy flow coming from the gemstone. Because of this, patients who choose to wear gemstones as part of their crystal therapy often buy jewellery with gemstones that aren’t encased in metal or gold.
The condition of the gemstones is important to their effectiveness. Whole, natural, high-quality gems that are not irradiated or dyed have more healing potential than those that have been manufactured, processed or damaged. Colour, shape and size of crystals also inform their healing properties.
Advocates of crystal healing report lowered physical and mental stress levels, better health and spiritual refinement. In addition, certain crystals are believed to help heal specific ailments. Each gemstone traditionally used in crystal therapy has particular healing properties attributed to it and is used depending on a patient’s needs.
Before beginning crystal healing, gemstones should be cleansed and energized. Gemstones can be washed in clean water, laid out in the sunlight or moonlight or have sound push away negative energies contained in the stones. Chiming a bell, gong or making another pure sound next to the stones promotes the renewal of energy in the stones and readies them for a new patient.
In advanced crystal healing, gemstones can also be fashioned into wands to perform a type of “psychic surgery” that helps remove blockages, remedy illness and redirect positive energy. Though some patients have found results after undergoing psychic surgery, substituting crystal healing for primary medical care is inadvisable. Instead, crystal healing should be looked upon as a supplemental source of care for those seeking renewed energy, vitality and health.
